A Lenten Project

It is during the Lenten season that I most miss being a part of the Catholic Church.  One of my biggest qualms with my time in the Catholic Church was the ritual aspect - or rather - the emphasis on the acts/sacraments/motions themselves over - quite simply - Grace.  I think this is true of every religion though.  Religion suffocates Grace.  This is really not intended to be a knock on organized religion - in fact we love our organized religion at Covenant. During Lent, especially on Ash Wednesday and the days of Holy Week, I find myself in a very Catholic frame of mind - and thankful for God using the Catholic Church to lead me to Christ.  It was in RUF that I came to understand my salvation by faith through Grace alone, but my journey to Christ came through some amazing Christian men and women in the Catholic Church.  That said, I am digging into my Catholic side and giving something up for Lent. I am tired of complainers and I put myself at the top of that list, so, my project for Lent is to give up being negative by focusing on joy.  God wants us to be joyful, so each day during Lent I will be listing 10 things for which I am thankful.

                  Psalm 100:1-5

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
It is He who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.
